Finnish Road Association
Finnish Road Association (Suomen Tieyhdistys ry) is a knowledgeable and influential advocate for roads and their sustainable use. The association has been operating since 1917.
Finnish Road Association actively promotes the funding of roads, their sustainable use, and the strengthening of expertise in the field. Its goal is to ensure smooth everyday mobility and the vitality of all regions in Finland. The key focus areas of the association’s activities are:
- Long-term development of road funding and sector expertise
- Private roads and their role as part of the transport system
- Inspiring events and expert advisory services
- Sustainable development
The association is the leading expert in private road matters in Finland. It trains private road association managers to assist road maintenance associations through the TIKO training program, and educates other stakeholders through its “private road university”.
Finnish Road Association organizes several major national and international events in the field, the most well-known being Väylät & Liikenne (Transport & Infrastructure), Talvitiepäivät (Winter Road Congress), and Alueelliset yksityistiepäivät (Regional Private Road Days). In cooperation with other organizations, it also organizes the Transport Research Finland event and Yhdyskuntatekniikka-näyttely (YT-exhibition).
The association publishes the Tie & Liikenne (Road & Transport) and Yksityistieuutiset (Private Road News) magazines, as well as various guidebooks.
Membership of Finnish Road Association
The association includes both individual and organizational members. Individual members include professionals working in the field, students, and pensioners. Organizational members represent a wide range of companies, authorities, organizations, municipalities, cities, and private road associations operating in the sector.
National and International Memberships and Networks
Finnish Road Association is a founding member (since 1935) of the Nordic Road Forum (NVF). Its representative sits on the board of the Finnish section of the Road and Transport Association (PTL). The association is also a member of FinMobility ry, the leading EU-level advocate for Finnish transport sector employers and trade organizations in Brussels.
In addition, the association is a member of the following organizations:
- Mobilia (Mobilia is the national responsibility museum for road and motor transport in Finland)
- ITS Finland
- Liikenneturva (Finnish Road Safety Council)
The association also serves as the representative for Auto- ja Tiefoorumi, ATF (Car and Road Forum).
